» The rise of Firefox continues
The rise of Firefox continues. Almost 1 out of three European surfers now uses Firefox to browse the web. 27.8% to be exact - up from 24.1% in March.
The market share of Internet Explorer has dropped below 70%, all according to Xiti, a French statistics agency.

Use of Firefox generally goes up at the weekend in Europe, suggesting that people have the browser on their home PCs and may get what they're given at work.
Although the usage progresses in al of the 32 studied countries, Slovenia takes the lead, closely followed by Finland. They both cross the 45%!
In France the percentage (23.9%) is always lower than that of Europe as a whole. Spain posts on the other hand a beautiful rise (+24%), even if its percentage (19.1%) still remains under the 20%.
It is in Denmark and the Netherlands that the numbers of Firefox users are the lowest in Europe: respectively 15.2% and 14.6% as Xiti's pretty map below indicates.

Other browsers
Internet Explorer is still by far the navigator most used in Europe but it's losing ground. On July 8, 2007, the average share of visits of a European country for Internet Explorer is 66.5% whereas it was 73.3% one year earlier, on of July 3, 2006.
Opera arrives 3rd, far behind Firefox, with a share of 3.5%. And then fourth, comes Safari with 1.7%
Continents
Oceania scores best as it approaches 30%. Firefox also gains ground in the other continents, still under the threshold of the 20%. Note for example the very strong progression of the of Firefox in South America (+30%) which now surpasses that of Africa: 15.5% vs 14.7%.
